Regarding Results
When results are released, the range of emotions are wide, and every single one of them is valid.
If you are excited, take time to celebrate... while also being mindful of those around you who may be disappointed.
If you are disappointed, give yourself space to feel that... while also respecting those who are celebrating.
The results do not define who you are. How you respond to them does.
It is possible to celebrate without putting others down. It is also possible to be disappointed without diminishing someone else’s success. Someone else’s light does not take away from yours - everyone has their own.
Growth does not happen at the same pace for everyone. Just like children learn to crawl, walk, and run at different times, musicians develop at different speeds. The rate at which you progress does not determine your value.
Everyone in this program is valuable. No one is “better” than anyone else. We are all on individual journeys and sometimes where we are aligns with our goals, and sometimes it doesn’t… at least not yet.
Those who stay committed and don’t give up will get there. Growth Mindset.

Regarding Communication
We are always available to answer questions.
We encourage parents to remember:
  • We see and work with your students every day, often for four years - we know them well.
  • Auditions are not based solely on a short moment, but on consistent growth over time.
  • This is an opportunity for students to advocate for themselves and take ownership of their experience. Have faith in them to do so.
  • Have faith in us to know what is right for this program.
With that said, we will be available to answer student questions in person when we return to school next week. This allows time for emotions to settle so conversations can be more productive and meaningful.
We will always listen, and we will always be honest.

Regarding the Roosevelt Choir Family
What we are most proud of in this program, alongside our pursuit of excellence, is our culture.
We care for one another.
We support one another.
We create an environment where everyone feels safe to be themselves, to take risks, and to grow.
No matter what choir you are placed in:
You belong.
You matter.
You are valued.

We are ONE Roosevelt Choir Department.
EVERY CHOIR MATTERS.
EVERY CHOIR IS EXCELLENT.
And we are so glad you are here.
