There will be an important meeting for ALL show choir students and their parents/guardians in the Roosevelt Auditorium on Monday, May 4 at 5:30 PM. The meeting relays some season details you will need to know, and most importantly, reveals each of the show choir show themes for the first time! It is a fun event for the new teams to share together. Please attend! This is the same date as the Fine Arts Awards evening, also in the Auditorium, which begins at 7:00 PM. Return students/families, please plan accordingly.
REMIND MESSAGES
One of our consistent methods of reaching teams, especially during the summer and the competitive season, is through the REMIND app. It is very important that everyone join your team REMIND and it is very important that you do so using the appropriate "role" or you will not get all of your messages. Students make sure you register using use the STUDENT role. Also, use your first and last name (no nicknames or abbreviations). Parents make sure you register using the PARENT role.

CALENDARS
While we do everything in our power to be flexible and work around busy schedules, we do ask that you put our important dates (Retreats and Competitions) on your calendars right away and please try to avoid absences during those events.
You will see a summer strength training schedule on the calendars. We are so fortunate at Roosevelt to have a solid partnership with our athletic department and the Strength and Conditioning Coach, who makes time in the weight room for our show choirs, just like any other sport. Being in the weight room over the summer only helps you and your team in season - show choir is hard work. Strength and endurance are necessary for success. It is also an important TEAM BUILDING time. The weight room sessions are STRONGLY encouraged. If there are times that you have conflicts, it will not be held against you - but we do ask you to make as many of the sessions as possible!
Show Choirs do NOT do the Sanford SCORE Summer Pre-Testing.
ACTIVITY FORMS
When the district makes Activity Forms/Renewal Forms available, these must be completed in full before students are allowed to even rehearse. Please complete them as soon as possible! Show choir does NOT require a physical.
When more details are available, they will be added here!
SUMMER RETREATS
You will notice that Bull Moose Party and Executive Suite are the two show choirs listed for summer retreat dates. Capital Harmony will be learning all music first and beginning choreography a little bit later into the fall (this has been done in previous years with extreme success.)
Because our auditorium is being renovated this summer, we have made plans to move summer retreats off site. Please note the location on the schedules!
MEALS NEEDED FOR RETREAT DAYS
With summer retreats at Table Ministries at the Western Mall, we will be asking for some meals to be brought in to where we are rather than hosting at individual houses! Eating together during retreats doubles as amazing team building time!
If you can help with a meal or two, sign up here:

COMMUNICATION and ATTENDANCE
Attendance for retreats and competitions are considered crucial to the success of the teams and every effort should be made to clear calendars for those dates. Attendance to regular rehearsals is also incredibly important for teams to make progress and be competitive, but we do understand when something comes up from time to time. When there is a conflict that can't be negotiated or avoided, we are very understanding as long as healthy communication takes place.
Excused Absences are those that are communicated and approved by the directors ahead of time, If there is an emergencies, we do understand and those are also excused once discussed and explained. As long as communication occurs, absences can be excused.
Unexcused Absences are those with no communication, warning or explanation. That is skipping. Telling a friend to relay a message at rehearsal for you is not appropriate or an excused absence. Unexcused absences are disrespectful to the progress of the team, therefore have consequences:
1st skip - likely to be removed or relocated on stage from the portion of the show that was cleaned, changed, rehearsed at that time
2nd skip - attend, but sit out of next public performance
3rd skip - no longer a part of the team
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
6Parents! This program has a place for you, as well as your students!
Executive Showcase - January 29,30, 2027 This is the largest event held at Roosevelt High School all year and raises a significant amount of money to fill in the gaps that our individual fundraising doesn't cover. There are so many ways to get involved to help make this event a success!

FAN GEAR
Every fall we work with Dakota Sports in Sioux Falls and open an online store for Roosevelt Choirs fan gear/apparel. Orders arrive before the competitive season begins so our crowds are ready to represent the school at comps! It is also helpful to wear Roosevelt attire so that everyone can identify one another and meet each other! We function as ONE team, regardless of which show choir any student participates in, so all of our apparel represents the entire department. We do not approve of individual team products - this is why all of the students jackets are the same, etc.! We Are Roosevelt. We Are One.
