Grades in Roosevelt Choirs are based on two evenly weighted categories: Performance and Practice.

PERFORMANCE
This half of your grade is determined on showing a "Mastery of Music Performance." Choir is a performance based art form, and each of the public performances, or concerts, are equivalent to a unit exam in another class. Missing a concert, then, should be compared to missing an exam. Please put concerts on your calendars early to avoid conflicts that might impact your grade.
Skills demonstrated in this category are not limited to attendance alone; proper concert behavior, both as a performer and an audience member, also reflect in the mastery of understanding what it takes to be a successful performer.

PRACTICE
The other half of your grade is determined on showing a "Mastery of Music Literacy," "Mastery of Music History," and "Mastery of Music Rehearsal Technique."
Activities and lessons in these areas might include, but are not limited to:

"Mastery of Music Literacy"
· Solfege and sight reading
· Rhythm
· Music Vocabulary

"Mastery of Music History"
· Music History Timeline
· Composers
· Music Reflections

"Mastery of Music Rehearsal Technique"
· Preparedness
·
 Posture
·
 Participation
·
 Breathing Technique
·
 Vocal production

As in every class, 15% of the overall semester grade will come from the semester test.  Semester tests vary by choir and semester, depending upon what is being emphasized at that time.  Semester tests may include, but are not limited to:

· Paper/pencil test on theory, history, vocabulary
· Individual or group projects pertaining to information studied over that semester
 · Recording session demonstrating performance mastery of semester's repertoire

What else you should know:
· Once a grading window is closed, it is impossible for teachers to go back in and change grades for late work or missed performances.  We are able to have the registrar go in and make the change. However, while the overall semester grade (and final grade) will reflect that change, it will not change the quarter grade as it appear in Infinite Campus.
